TIPS FOR MEMORIZING PRAYERS AND SCRIPTURE
Pray together at the same time every day, like before bed or during car rides.
Put copies of the prayers or scriptures in key places, such as on the bathroom mirror to be read while brushing teeth and on the table for mealtimes.
Reflect on the meaning of the prayers and scriptures.
Put hand motions or sign language with key words or phrases of the scripture or prayer.
Have the children decorate or illustrate the prayers or scriptures.
Do activity sheets of the prayers or scriptures.
Turn the prayer or scripture to a song. Make up your own tune or use tunes from classical music or nursey rhymes.
Number the lines of the prayer. Read the prayer/scripture, focusing on the first line. Then shut your eyes, say the first line from memory, open your eyes and read the rest of the prayer/scripture focusing on the second line, and so on.
