Liturgical Ministries

Altar Server Ministry

Altar Servers offer service to God and the community by assisting the priest during Mass.  Men and women assist the Priest and Deacon at the Altar for all weekend, Holy Days, and weekday Masses.  Servers are also needed for special event Masses, funeral Masses, and Weddings.  Through their reverent service at the Mass, altar servers act as faithful witnesses within the community.  The ministry of altar serving requires dedication, attentiveness to detail and the appropriate reverence for the sacred articles and solemnity of the liturgy.  Both adults and children (4th grade and up) are encouraged to participate. While assisting at the weekend Masses and other liturgical celebrations, it is important that servers be active participants in the liturgy by active listening, singing, and praying with the entire assembly. Training will be provided.  Please contact our Liturgical Coordinator, Virginia Sangren through our parish office by calling: 417-326-5596

Reader/Lector Ministry

Readers (Lectors) serve at the weekend, weekday, and Holy Day Masses.  Greeting the assembly and the proclamation of the scared scriptures are essential parts of each Sunday’s worship. The readers proclaim the first and second readings from Sacred Scripture. Those who proclaim the Word assume a task that entails a personal time commitment for study and prayerful preparation. Candidates must have received all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation). They also welcome parishioners at the beginning of Mass and assist with the Prayers of the Faithful during the Mass when needed. Training will be provided.  Please contact our Liturgical Coordinator, Virginia Sangren through our parish office by calling: 417-326-5596

Ministry of Hospitality

Sacred Heart Catholic Church offers our members the opportunity to share their gifts in hospitality by serving as Greeters and Ushers during our many weekly Masses. They are entrusted with promoting a sense of welcoming and belonging to all the faithful assembled for worship. They are the first point of contact for the communal celebration of the Liturgy and because of this, should take special steps in being living representatives of the Parish Mission Statement. Ministers of Hospitality minister to the entire community in a very active way by creating a welcoming atmosphere at each Mass.

Extraordinary Ministers Ministry

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) are called to assist with the distribution of Holy Communion or exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. There are three roles:

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Mass — Assists when the ordained ministers (priests and deacons) need assistance to distribute communion in a timely manner to those who are present at Mass.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion outside of Mass — Appointed to bring communion to the sick and elderly.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to expose and repose the Blessed Sacrament for Eucharistic Adoration.

An EMHC must be a practicing Catholic, at least 18 years of age, baptized, confirmed, received First Communion, reverential, respectful of his/her faith and the Blessed Sacrament, and must also be in good standing with the teachings of the Catholic Church.  If you are interested, please contact our Liturgical Coordinator, Virginia Sangren through our parish office by calling: 417-326-5596

Liturgical Environment Ministry

“The tradition of decorating or not decorating the church for liturgical seasons and feasts heightens the awareness of the festive, solemn, or penitential nature of these seasons. Human minds and hearts are stimulated by the sounds, sights, and fragrances of liturgical seasons, which combine to create powerful, lasting impressions of the rich and abundant graces unique to each of the seasons.” (US. Catholic Bishops)

When changing liturgical seasons or preparing for special Masses, additional hands are often needed for assisting in the preparations.  If you are interested in assisting the Liturgical Coordinator with creating Liturgical Environments,  please contact our Liturgical Coordinator, Virginia Sangren through our parish office by calling: 417-326-5596
