Seven Last Words of Christ: The Fourth Word
33 And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land[a] until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “E′lo-i, E′lo-i, la′ma sabach-tha′ni?” which means, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
We adore You, Oh Christ, and we bless You, for by Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world.
Holy cross, you alone were counted worthy to bear the ransom of the world.
Glory be to Jesus,
who in bitter pains
poured for me the lifeblood
from his sacred veins!
Grace and life eternal
in that blood I find,
blest be his compassion
infinitely kind!
Blest through endless ages
be the precious stream
which for sin and sorrow
does the world redeem.
Lift now then your voices;
swell the might flood;
louder still and louder
praise the Precious Blood.
Let us pray...
Merciful Savior,
and friend of the human race,
as darkness came over the whole land,
you cried out in agony to your Father.
By this cry of dereliction,
rescue us from the torments of despair,
and entrust us to your sacrificial death.
You live and reign with the Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen
